I thought the book was good for getting a perspective on East German life. By itself I don't think it would be sufficient, but along with the other material we used, it worked pretty well. Watching "Das Leben der Anderen" and reading other historical material about Berlin and East Germany put a good historical context around the time period. Drehort Neubrandenburg added a real-life situation to the reunification. This book was a good supplement.
Themes such as lacking an identity and not knowing what to do were themes we discussed in class. I thought especially looking for an identity was a major piece of the book, especially with Biene and Olli.
